In this installment of the Inner Persona miniseries, we’ll continue to expand our mental ‘word-hoard’ by adding some galactic similes – phrases that compare things using like or as:
“as acquisitive as a Neimoidian” (Darth Plageius chapter 5)
“as ostentatious as a Hutt” (ibid)
“as slippery as a greased Dug” (Outbound Flight)
“as nervous as a Trandoshan in a wallet factory” (Outlander part 1)
“slick as a slime toad” (Jabba’s Game Galaxy)
“Green as a monkey-lizard” (ibid)
“as dead as Honoghr” (Survivor’s Quest)
“as cold as a B’omarr’s bed” (Outlander)
“As firm as carbonite” (Last of the Jedi #4: Death on Naboo)
“Making enough noise for a reek in heat” (Razor’s Edge: Empire and Rebellion, chapter 10)
“…peeled its armor like an overripe Ithorian starfruit” (Revenge of the Sith, chapter 1)

While I’m sure it’s nothing like the Carambola at my grocery store, it would be very tempting to bring a starfruit to an event as a snack in one’s pack, and refer to it as an ‘Ithorian starfruit’. Although now that I think about it, these aren’t really something that need peeling, so…maybe not. 😦
-instead of ‘scatter like cockroaches’, we have “scatter like rycrits” (Razor’s Edge: Empire and Rebellion, Chapter 10)
I’m slowly working my way through the Stackpole/Allston series of X-wing novels, which are real gems of classic EU literature. Both authors have a good feel for the setting and tend to include plenty of in-universe tidbits, so I’ll be adding more as I continue through the series. So far I’ve uncovered:
“like drool on a Hutt” and “like chitin on a Verpine” (used similar to how we would use “like white on rice” or “like stink on shit”)
“blinder than a Y-wing”
“screamed like a mynock”
-Director’s Isard’s blue eye is described as being “as cold as Hoth and as cruel as a Hutt in a sporting mood.”–as Echo Base was supposed to be secret, the former would probably only be appropriate for a member of the Alliance or Empire who served at the Battle of Hoth.
“nervous as Sithspawn in the glow of a Jedi’s lightsaber”
“you’re as confused as a Gamorrean placed between two full mugs of lum.”
“As certain as taxes and as slow as paperwork”
“as soft as a Hutt’s underbelly”
“as elusive as the Katana fleet”
“slicker than a Hutt’s slime trail”
“graceful as a Hutt in freefall”
“dense as duracrete”
And another figurative comparison using fruit when a stormtrooper’s helmet splits “like the rind of an overripe meiloorun“.
Since they don’t really fit into any of the categories I’ve made for this series of posts, I should point out that if you’re considering a gambler, pirate, or other sort of scoundrel-y impression and want to level up your inner persona vocab, you should definitely check out the Wookieepedia page on ‘deal-slang’.
I still have other categories of in-universe phrases for future posts…are there any good examples I’ve missed in this installment? Leave them in a comment below!

You are correct that the Stackpole and Allston Star Wars novels have great in-universe language. I can’t think of any other similes off the top of my head, but this definitely gives the basics for anyone to take a general example from!
