Because research and living history are never complete (one’s persona can always be improved), as part of my continuing efforts in refinement, I am always on the lookout for more goodies to put in my pockets to flesh out or embellish my personas, and as I’ve said before, I’m a big fan of whittling. It’s easy to pick up, requires a little brainpower but is still relaxing in the moment, and the end results–like this V-35 landspeeder–are lots of fun to show off. Why did I decide to whittle this vehicle specifically?
After being quite pleased with the R4 unit I whittled some years back, I was trying to come up with other ‘common’ things that would lend themselves to the whittled form. I thought about small droids or vehicles that I could put in a pocket, and this got me reminiscing about Galoob’s MicroMachines/Action Fleet line from the mid 90s. As I browsed through, the vehicle included in the Lars homestead ‘Battle Pack’ popped out at me: a V-35 Courier landspeeder–perfect!
This speeder model was first introduced sometime prior to 37 BBY (2 BrS), and was still commonplace by 0 BBY, so would be familiar to pretty much any persona I currently or might portray in the future.
-As what is basically a ‘space minivan’, they’re exceedingly commonplace.
-the Wook’s page claims that the Naboo security forces used modified V-35s for patrols, which would make it familiar to my Naboo partisan persona…although the article does not cite a source for this information, and so I will need to do some research to independently confirm. (Don’t trust unreferenced sources!)
-The V-35 was manufactured by the SoroSuub corporation, and so would likely be familiar to my Rebel on Sulon impression as well, if I ever want to dust that persona off down the road.
-Plus, the geometric shape is easy to carve!

Have you ever whittled anything from the GFFA? Have an idea what I should try my hand at whittling next? Leave a comment below!
