Event Debrief: 20 July 2016

As they (probably) say on Kamino, when it rains it pours! That’s right, my first two public GFFA reenacting events were back-to-back!

Venue: Frazier International History Museum‘s ‘Jedi, Wizards, and Time Lords!’ summer camp
72016
Compared to the day before, this event was Much more to my liking. I debuted my basic (then-unnamed) Agricultural Corps persona, and presented (in First Person!) to two groups of about 15 campers each. I gave a 15-20 minute talk on contents of a basic survival kit (i.e. Dave Canterbury’s ‘10 Cs’, translated into GFFA terms), taught the reverse-ply cordage-making technique with raffia palm fibers, and then had a few minutes for Q&A.
The first group were 5th/6th graders (aged ~10-12), who were much more interested in the background of the impression and the details of my kit—belt pouch contents, etc.

The second group of younglings were 3rd/4th graders (aged ~8-10), who were, as expected, less patient and adept at cordage. Their questions were more demanding of proof: wanting to learn more about if I was a ‘real Jedi’, where was my lightsaber?, could I use the Force?, etc.

Take-aways:
As including programming of my sort was a first for this venue, the main issues were how to introduce me to the campers. Did I have a ‘Jedi name’? How should people address me?—is Master Jedi ____ the same as Jedi Master ____?
How should I address others? Is there a Jedi salute? I quickly settled on a simple bow.
Also, I need to work up some points to better describe the duties of the AgriCorps. And how to better explain my lack of lightsaber.
