Research Pays Off: Jedi Service Corps Embroidery

Back last spring when I was first putting my AgriCorps Jedi persona together, I wanted some way to help indicate (besides the bucket hat, folding trowel, and complete lack of lightsaber) that Silo wasn’t another run-of-the-mill Knight that most people picture when they think ‘Jedi’. What I really wanted was some kind of patch that I could sew onto my outfit or field gear to help designate my membership in the Agricultural Corps.
Since I didn’t know of any existing symbols used by the various branches of the Service Corps (what’s the plural of corps? It can’t be corpses?), I opted to use a mid-90s Girl Scout ‘Plant Culture’ merit badge, since—to my eyes—it looked like a pair of non-human hands growing a plant with the Jedi consitor sato technique.

However, recent subsequent research has yielded a great development—the various branches of the Service Corps did, in fact, have their own insignia after all!:

These come from the 2010 in-universe book, The Jedi Path. Highly recommended to (and most useful for) anyone considering a late Republic-era Jedi persona, though it does include comments from Luke Skywalker circa 24 ABY.

I still feel that the Girl Scout patch does a better job of showing membership in the AgriCorps (or at least, the duties of the Corps), although the design above does feel more in-universe; but since they only show up in this particular source, they’re incredibly obscure; naturally, nobody is producing them.

Because my Girl Scout patch just wasn’t going to cut it anymore in light of this discovery, I needed to find a way to make such a patch. I wasn’t sure how to go about commissioning one…but I had been interested in learning basic embroidery…
So I made my own:

Mark I: not bad, but not great.
servicecorps_agripatch mk2
Mk II: whoops, too skinny!
servicecorps_agripatch mk3
Mk III: about as close as I’m going to get, I think. Works well enough for me!

For those playing along at home, these were done with canvas and embroidery floss, using a simple satin stitch for the design, and a whip stitch for the border. Once you know the basics, the sky’s the limit! DIY!

Researching, crafting, and writing this site takes a lot of time and energy. If you’ve enjoyed reading, have learned something from this post, or have been inspired to try some in-universe embroidery of your own, please consider supporting my work with a small donation below! Thank you!
